"Imperator Nikolai I" is the squadron battleship of the Baltic Fleet. It was laid down in June 1886 and set afloat on 20 May 1889. It was put into service in April 1891. The major part of its service the "Imperator Nikolai I" spent in foreign sails. It participated in the celebrations on the occasion of the 400th Anniversary of Discovery of America, which took place in New York. From 1895 till 1896 it served in the Far East. In 1897-1898 it participated in the International Peacemaking Mission in Crete. It took part in the Battle of Tsushima as a flag ship of the 3-rd Pacific Squadron. Many people call the "Imperator Nikolai I" the most contradictory ship in the history of the Russian Fleet. Starting from the projection and ending with the service, it embodied the genius decisions with the unforgivable faults, the heroic marches with the unprecedented shame of surrendering of the whole squadron. Its the most outdated artillery in the Russian squadron caused the most serious damages to the Japanese (breaking of the armour of the turret of 12" guns in the squadron battleship "Fuji" as well as breaking of the armour and damage of the steering control in the armoured cruiser "Asama") in the Battle of Tsushima. The battleship was excluded from the lists of the Russian Fleet on 13 September 1905. It was included in the Japanese Fleet on 23 May 1905. There the battleship received the name "Iki" and was used as a training artillery ship. The model has a high level of detailed drafting. We recommend it to experienced modelers.
