Torpedo boat, Great Britain, 1899 FICHA TÉCNICA: Nombre: Conflict, 1:200, OREL Código: ORE-0090 Fabricante: OREL Hojas: 8 Escala: 1:200 Dificultad: difícil Formato: A4 Otros: En inglés, alemán, ruso y polaco. The ships of the “27-knot” type “Conflict” and the ships of the same type “Teazer” and “Wizard” were constructed at the shipyards of the firm "John Samuel White". They were notable by the characteristic silhouette: the sheer hull with the high raised ends and the noticeable lowering of the side in the middle part. Of the three flue funnels (comparatively high, with the slight slope to the stern) two stern tubes were placed very close to each other. All the ships were divided in compartments by seven cross waterproof bulkheads, which had no doors. The hulls are made of steel of increased solidity; their skin had the thickness of about 6 mm. The only one constructive protection was the increased thickness up to 12,5 mm in the area of planking of the deckhouse and the coal in the coal bunkers. These were two-propeller torpedo boats, with two vertical steam engines. Under the real service conditions the speed of the ships did not exceed 24-25 knots instead of the contract 27 knots. During all the period of service the torpedo boat “Conflict” operated in the waters of the mother country. In 1900-1901 it was in the Mediterranean Sea. During the First World War the ship was in the flotilla of the defense of Portsmouth. 20 May 1920 the “Conflict” was sold for scrap to the firm “Ward” in Milford-Haven. The interesting and thoroughly worked out model with a rather rich detailing will become an excellent addition to the collection of any modeler of ships.
